The Number Four Chart

preview_nr4_chart

The number four is a very significant symbol in the Bible. It represents a progressive rebellion and abomination that comes in among God’s people repeatedly throughout history. Ezekiel was shown the four escalating abominations among God’s people at Jerusalem in chapter 8 of his book. The same pattern can be seen in the four insects of Joel Chapter 2, verse 25. This same pattern is illustrated in may other places throughout the Bible. Each of them parallel the others in a way that is so perfect, and so wonderful, only the infinite wisdom of God could have designed it. This chart compares the parallels of several of them, including Ezra chapter 8, Joel chapter 2, Leviticus chapter 26, Lucifer’s progressive rebellion in Heaven and more. This is a very profound and deep Bible study that adds a lot of light and deepens understanding of current events within the Adventist Church.

The Prophecy of the 2520 Days

“The experience of the disciples who preached the “gospel of the kingdom” at the first advent of Christ, has its counterpart in the experience of those who proclaimed the message of his second advent. As the disciples went out preaching, “The time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand,” so Miller and his associates proclaimed that the longest and last prophetic period brought to view in the Bible was about to expire, that the Judgment was at hand, and the everlasting kingdom was to be ushered in.” The Great Controversy 1888, pg 351

The longest and last prophetic period brought to view i the Bible is not as most people believe, the 2300 day prophesy.  Miller correctly believed that there was a 2520 year prophecy given in Leviticus 26.  It is given four times in that chapter, thus showing the importance of this particular prophecy.  It is given as the result of Israel’s failure to follow God’s laws and contains almost all other time prophecies given in the Bible, including the 2300, the 70 years of Babylonian captivity and the 1260 years of wilderness wandering leading up to the Millerite time period.  This time prophecy is on the original 1843 chart, the Ellen White tells us was as God wanted it.  It was also on the 1850 chart that corrected the error on the original.

As outlined by this chart, there were two 2520 year prophecies, one against the Northern 10 tribes of Israel and one against the Southern two tribes of Judah and Benjamin.  They have significantly different meanings and we would do well to prayerfully study them both.  This chart is an invaluable visual aid for this study.

The Belshazzar Parallel

“I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed,” writes Daniel, “and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven… This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will…The same Watcher who came to Daniel was an uninvited guest at Belshazzar’s sacrilegious feast.. not hide the intensity of their terror. Alarm seized the great men of the kingdom. Their blasphemous disrespect of sacred things was changed in a moment. A frantic terror overcame all self-control. Belshazzar had been given many opportunities for knowing and doing the will of God. He had seen his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar banished from the society of men. He had seen the intellect in which the proud monarch gloried taken away by the One who gave it.”  The Youth’s Instructor, May 19, 1898

Again in the story of Belshazzar we see that God is in control of human affairs here on earth.  No matter what part we play, it is God who sets up kings, and takes them down.  It is God that directs the flow and events of life.

This chart shows the historical lines of the three great Babylonian kings of Bible history, Nimrod, Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, and parallels them with the Millerite time, the time of the 144,000 (Modern Adventism) and the little time of trouble just before the end of the world.  This is another example of the accuracy of Miller’s rules for Bible study and proof-texting.  By comparing line upon line, we can see how perfectly different histories line up, showing us not only what has happened in the past, but giving us strong clues as to what is to come in the future.
